The Tale of the Ugly Christmas Sweater

According to an article that was orginially posted on Complex, “Christmas-themed sweaters were first produced on a grand scale in the 1950s, when the Christmas holiday was becoming increasingly commercialized. Initially referred to as “Jingle Bell Sweaters,” the first-gen ugly sweaters saw decades of modest popularity. It wasn’t until the 1980s that the Christmas sweater gained mainstream adoration.”

As recently as 2015, consumers wishing to take part in Ugly Sweater Parties had no option but to scour second hand shops with the hopes of finding something that could be adorned with glitter, ornaments, garland and other holiday trinkets. However, fast forward to 2017 and, as we near the holidays, ugly Christmas sweaters will soon be seen on the racks of retail establishments everywhere. And, for those still wanting to create their own work of art, a simple google search will bring you to a Do it Yourself Ugly Sweater Kit.

Here at EMT we love that the ugly christmas sweater trend infuses a tremendous amount of fun into what has become somewhat of a pressure filled season of financial stress induced by obligatory gift giving. The ugly sweater party brings a sort of simplicity to the holidays and helps to create an enviorment of joyfulness, that when paired with just the right amount of eggnog, creates lasting memories instead of lasting credit card debt.

  1. Hold an Ugly Christmas Sweater Coloring Contest – Print out coloring sheets to hand out to each employee of your company. Give them out with a deadline for return. Upon receiving all of the entries, post them online and give your customers an opportunity to vote on their favorite design.  Choose a winner and use that art as the design on your Ugly Christmas Sweater Ornament.  Mail the completed ornamnet out to clients with your holiday cards, post on social media, and hand out as a gift to each person in the company at your holiday party, giving the winner a special prize. Then, next year, do it again! Making it an annual thing means people will look forward to participating year after year.  What a simple, inexpensive way to boost morale and get employees engaged right? And, for even more fun, include your customers in on the design contest too!
  2. Have an Ugly Christmas Sweater Decorating Party –  In advance of your holiday party, get people together to decorate Christmas Sweaters. Have a contest and let company team members choose their favorite.  Turn the winning sweater into a graphic and use it as the design for the ornament. Proceed as detailed above in option #1.
  3. Make a scene – A winter scene that is! In addition to our sweater ornaments, we also have a Snowglobe Shaped Ornament.  Use one of four stock backgrounds, or get creative and design your own!
  4. Stick with tradition – Maybe you’d love to have a contest or do something really fun with your ornament design, but you just don’t have the time. 19% of Dropped Cell Phones End Up in a Toilet

True story bro. Of the phones that are dropped and sustain damage in a year, one in five of these has water damage from falling into a toilet.  This is an alarming statistic in light of the fact that we live in an age where people would rather lose their wallet or purse than their mobile device.  What exactly do you do in that situation?!
